This luxurious album, bound in leather with a brass frontispiece, is a testament to immigration. In 1910, the Argentine Jewish community presented it to retired Director of Immigration, Dr. Juan Antonio Alsina (1852-1937) in gratitude to Alsina’s helpful immigration policies. The allegorical watercolor by Francisco Fortuny on the title page features a female Argentina beckoning towards two immigrants, an old man and a youth, while a large steamer enters the harbor in the background. The album is filled with more than 1,000 signatures from grateful Russian Jewish immigrants to Argentina.
