This is the only known edition of a calendar by the Dutch-Jewish artist Samuel Leser, also known as Mommie Schwarz. It was probably created with his wife, Else Berg. Both artists were celebrated members of the Bergen School of painters, characterized by Cubist figuration and expressionist influences. During WWII, Schwarz and Berg refused to wear the yellow star or go into hiding. They were arrested in 1942 and died in Auschwitz.

The brilliantly colored prints depict the German-born radical avant-garde dancer, Gertrud Leistikow (1885-1948).
